former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former state president of the Congress, who joined the BJP in February 2024, leaving the Congress. Now, the BJP washing machine has come into action because he was being investigated by the CBI and ED.
In the Adarsh Housing Society scandal,
where it was found that when Ashok Chavan was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, many family members got apartments that were meant for our army’s families. The most shocking thing is that on 8th February, the Ministry of Finance released a white paper comparing the performance of the Indian economy under Congress and BJP governments.
They said that in the Congress government, there were so many corruption scandals, one of which they mentioned in their paper was the Adarsh Housing Society scam. The same government, five days later, on 13th February, invited the biggest name in the corruption scandal, Ashok Chavan, to join their party. Now, will the ED and CBI investigate against them?
Statistics say that from 2014, 25 opposition leaders who were under investigation for corruption have joined the BJP. Out of 25, the investigation of 23 politicians has either been stopped or canceled. Like Suhasni Adhikari, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was asked why leaders who are charged with corruption join your party.

On 26th November 2008, a horrific terrorist attack took place against our country, the Mumbai attacks.
Due to this, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was heavily criticised.
A few days later, on 5th December 2008, he resigned from his position and was replaced. Elections were held in Maharashtra in 2009, and the Congress party won. After that, Ashok Chavan became Chief Minister again, but he had to resign a few months later due to the Adarsh Housing Society scandal.
What is the Adarsh Housing Society scandal? The Adarsh Housing Society is a 31-story building where our government decided to give apartments to military personnel who were heroes of our country in the Kargil War, and to the families of those soldiers who were martyred in this war. This plan was made for the welfare of military war veterans and their families.
Defence state office, who wrote a letter to the government demanding 4000 square meters of land in Mumbai’s Colaba area, Maharashtra’s government replied saying that this land is government-owned and we have reserved it for road infrastructure development, but because your project is a welfare project, from which military war veterans and their families will benefit, we are ready to give this land at a 20% discount.
This building is located in a very expensive area of Mumbai, Colaba, which is also sensitive because there are several important defence buildings there. However, the project progressed and Rajeshree Construction was given a track of 30 crores to build this building. In 2008, the National Alliance of People’s Movements, which is an environmental activist group, filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court.
This activist group said that this building is being built in a very environmentally sensitive area because it is located near Mumbai’s coast. Because of this, this building has to follow coastal regulation zone (CRZ) rules, which, according to them, this building was not following. The investigation found that in the original proposal of the Ministry of Defence, according to them, in this housing society, apartments would be given to servicemen, ex-servicemen, and their widows, meaning that servicemen, ex-servicemen, and their widows would be given flats.
But what was found in the investigation and was shocking was that out of 102 people who were given apartments, 
only 37 people were from the defence, 15 people were retired government employees, eight people were MP or MLA, and 42 people were government officials and political family members, including Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s family members.
It was found that Ashok Chavan’s family had three flats in this building, and the names of the owners were also fake. The High Court’s report showed that in Nagpur, a driver who had never come to Mumbai became the owner of a flat, and a vegetable vendor in Mumbai became the owner of a sedan. 
The investigation, which was shocking, shook Maharashtra and our country’s politics. 102 people were given apartments in the housing society, out of which only 37 were from the defence, 15 were retired government employees, eight were MP or MLA, and 42 were government officials and political family members. This happened because Colaba is such an expensive area.
The Adarsh Society Scandal: A Tale of Corruption and Political Maneuvering
As a result, the market value of these flats was 85 crores, which were given to these people for 85 lakhs, meaning that at a cost of 10, CBI filed an FIR in its investigation against 11 people, including Ashok Chauhan, for corruption and criminal conspiracy charges.
After this investigation, Ashok Chauhan resigned from the Chief Minister position. Many BJP leaders attacked Ashok Chauhan, including Nitin Gadkari. When it comes to the Adarsh Society, the Congress party is guilty, and there has been corruption in it. This has been accepted by the Congress party and the UP government, and that is why action has been taken against both.
Three years later, the Governor of Maharashtra did not give permission to the CBI to prosecute Ashok Chauhan, and then BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis said what Prima Facie case of quid pro quo, which fits into the legal framework, why the Governor refused to give permission to prosecute is really a million-dollar question.
One year later, on 30th March 2014, the Lok Sabha campaign started, and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi came to the Nanded area of Maharashtra. In which constituency was the Congress candidate against Narendra Modi? In his speech, Narendra Modi attacked Ashok Chauhan several times, and this speech will shake you. It was said in this speech that action will be taken against Ashok Chauhan. 
Whether it was said or not, giving a ticket is an action. And look at the shamelessness, see what they do, protecting the borders in the Kargil war, those who became martyrs, will they loot their widows too? What happened around 10 years after the speech? Ashok Chauhan is joining BJP. Devendra Fadnavis said in a press conference that Ashok Chauhan is a very big leader, a respected senior leader of Maharashtra, Ashok Raoji Chauhan Saheb is now joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Prashant Kishor recently said that in politics, you can get away with murder, but you shouldn’t go to the gutter.
Until the gutter comes into the Ganga, it should not go into the Ganga.
But if the situation becomes such that you can’t tell the difference between the Ganga and the gutter, then what happens? This is happening with the BJP. Do you think that now there will be a CBI investigation against Ashok Chauhan? Maybe not, because we have seen that when other leaders come to the BJP, like Subhendu Adhikari, there is a very famous saying in English, ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.’
When the sting operation was done between 2014 and 2016 by journalist Mathew Samuel,
many Trinamool Congress leaders were caught on corruption charges. For this sting operation, Mathew created a fake company, Impex Consultancy Solutions, and approached many Trinamool Congress leaders. They went to politicians and said, ‘Help my company, and in return, I will give you money.’ He recorded footage for more than 50 hours, where 12 Trinamool Congress leaders were caught asking for bribes. One of them was Subhendu Adhikari.
The details of this operation were published on a news website, Narada News. This case came to light just a few months before the 2016 state elections in West Bengal, which is why it became very big and was called the Narada sting operation case. Instead of taking action against the leaders, the Mamata Banerjee government filed a case against the journalist.
In August 2016, the Calcutta High Court stopped the case against the journalist, and in March 2017, it said that the CBI would investigate against all these leaders next month. In April 2017, the CBI filed an FIR against 12 leaders, one of whom was Subhendu Adhikari. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the CBI sought permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker to take action against Subhendu Adhikari, but why? Because there is a policy rule.
Political Events and Investigations in India
When action is taken against a sitting MP or MLA, permission must be sought from the Lok Sabha Speaker.
In April 2019, Prime Minister Modi campaigned in Asansol, West Bengal, stating that the position of Prime Minister is not one that can be bought with actions. He mentioned the Narada scam and clarified that the Prime Minister’s position cannot be bought with money from the Saradha and Narada scams.
In December 2020, Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP. The following year, during the West Bengal state elections, he received a BJP ticket from the Nandigram constituency against Mamata Banerjee. On 17th May 2021, the CBI arrested four Trinamool Congress leaders and filed a charge sheet against them. They then went to the Lok Sabha Speaker for permission, stating they needed it to invest with other accused individuals. However, they did not receive permission.
Matthew Samuel, who conducted the investigation, questioned the CBI as to why they had not arrested Suvendu Adhikari yet. Two months later, in July 2021, Suvendu Adhikari met with India’s Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta. The Solicitor General is a lawyer who fights cases on behalf of the government. Tushar Mehta stated that if the Solicitor General of India meets with someone who is an accused in a case, permission from the Government of India is required. However, there is no record of such permission.
The investigative agencies of our country, such as the CBI and ED, have become completely politicized. Since 2014, when the Modi government came to power, the ED has investigated 121 prominent politicians. Out of these, 115 cases were against opposition leaders, meaning 95% of cases were against opposition leaders. Now, you may say that the BJP is targeting corruption and corrupt leaders are only in opposition parties. However, since 2014, 25 opposition leaders have joined the BJP, who were facing cases in the ED or CBI. Out of these 25, 23 have been acquitted by the ED or CBI.In 2019
The Political Journey of Leaders Amidst Legal Controversies
As of June 2019, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charged Prabhu Patel in the Air India-Indian Airlines merger case. In March 2024, he joined the NDAA. In August 2014, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided Hemant Vishwa Sharma’s home, then a Congress leader, in the Saradha chit fund scam case. In November 2014, the CBI questioned him, and he joined the BJP in August 2015. The case has seen no action for 9 years. In November 2020, the ED questioned Randhir Singh, Captain Amarinder Singh’s son, in a corruption case. A year later, in November 2021, his father joined the BJP. In September 2022, Randhir also joined the BJP. The current status shows no progress.
The washing machine brand is BJP, and the detergent being used is the ED and CBI. However, this is not a new phenomenon. In 2007, the CBI registered a case against Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family. It alleged that Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family lied on their income tax returns. For instance, they claimed the value of their friend’s colony home in Etawah was 56,000 in their return, while the market value was 1 crore. Their Hazratganj home in Lucknow was stated to be worth 35 lakh, but the market value was 12 crore. The value of Dil Kush’s property in Lucknow was given as 20 lakh,
but the market price was 4 crore.
The situation in this case was so dire that in May 2007, the case was being heard in the Supreme Court. During the hearing about assets of Akhilesh Yadav, the case’s proceedings were emotional. Justice Joseph, who was heading the bench, broke down and said that a letter was sent to him containing several baseless allegations against him. Due to this, he said, “Give this case to another bench.” In July 2008, the UP government was counting its votes due to the America nuclear deal. But in the end, Mulayam Singh Yadav saved the government by voting for it. A few months later, in November 2008, the government’s Solicitor General, i.e., the government’s lawyer, told the CBI to withdraw its case.
The story doesn’t end here. In May 2009, seat-sharing talks were underway between Congress and the Samajwadi Party. If successful, the CBI said it was filing a case against Mulayam Singh Yadav. Then, 3 years later, Mulayam Singh Yadav helped Pranab Mukherjee, a candidate of the United Progressive Alliance, become President. After this, it seems the case was closed.
The lawyer who was fighting against Mulayam Singh Yadav said that this case was being dragged out deliberately. The Supreme Court judges who were supposed to deliver the judgment in this case, retired in January 2012 without giving a judgment. A year later, in 2013, this case was finally closed, and it is because of such things that in May 2013, a Supreme Court judge said that the CBI is a parrot.
This same thing happened in 2022 when the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramanna, said our governments have undermined these institutions so much that their independence is only on paper. If you wield the stick, the baton of the Prime Minister is in your hands, no matter how many speeches he gives, he uses the CBI and the ED to target the opposition.
The Challenge of Independence in India's Investigative Agencies
The twist is that this committee selects candidates approved by the Home Ministry, so all the names are already government-approved, and the government does not allow them to work properly. For example, in 2019, when CBI Chief Alok Verma started investigating the Rafale aircraft purchase by the Modi government, what did the Modi government do? They removed him from his position and appointed someone else as the CBI Chief. But the Supreme Court said this cannot happen. If you want to remove him, the same committee must approve it. Leader of the Opposition Malik Arjun Kharge and Justice Sikri gave a 2:1 vote,
reinstating Alok Verma as the CBI Chief. But the problem was that when all this was happening, Alok Verma had only two days left until his retirement. He retired, and then the Home Ministry sent names of nine people, and the new CBI Chief, who wasn’t interested in the Rafale investigation at all, was appointed. So, when the appointment of the CBI Chief and their work will be controlled by the central government, where will independence come from? The same thing applies to the ED. The ED Chief is also appointed by a committee.
The appointment of the Vigilance Commissioner, who checks the government’s corruption cases and has secretaries from several ministries of the central government present, is also problematic. Because the secretaries in these ministries report to the ministers, they will listen to them. In addition, there are many problems in the ED. For example, the ED has the power to record statements and make arrests, and can seize any property, but they have not been classified as a police agency like the CBI and state police, so they do not have to follow the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Therefore, whatever the central government wants, they can do it through the ED. The biggest power given to the ED is under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Under this Act, the ED can arrest and seize property without permission from the courts.
This Act is considered dangerous because getting bail under it becomes almost impossible. As I mentioned in this video, in our legal system, it is usually said “You are innocent until proven guilty”, but in the PMLA, it is the opposite. You have to prove that you are innocent, until then, you will not get bail and will remain in jail. In 2017, the Supreme Court said that the PMLA is unconstitutional, but the next year, the Modi government made changes to this law, after which the Supreme Court accepted all these changes, and getting bail became impossible.
So, our government is using the CBI and ED to target opposition leaders, but if a leader joins the BJP, then all the allegations are cleared. This threat of the washing machine applies only to some leaders. Other leaders love the camera, and in front of it, they show a lot of affection for their ideas. Behind our backs, they are playing musical chairs, and wherever they see a good chair, they sit there. I mean, the whole city.
This is why Vijendra Singh can say such things, then I fell asleep because he knows what the public will say. The problem is that after becoming an MP or an MLA, you get so many rewards that a politician is ready to do anything. This mentality is developing to win elections.
The Cost of Elections in India: Money, Power, and Ideology
In our country, elections have become so expensive that I discussed in the Electoral Bonds video. Every party wants candidates who have their own money and can campaign themselves. In 2019, the Bahujan Samaj Party’s MLA also said that if you have between two to ten crore rupees, Mayawati will give you a party ticket.
The Finance Minister of the country herself is saying that she cannot contest for Lok Sabha because she does not have that much money. I don’t have that kind of money to contest. In the last three general elections, 80% of the candidates who won had more than ₹1 crore. So when candidates spend so much money to win an election, after becoming an MP or MLA, people think about how they can make money from the system. In 2009, the average income of an MP was 5 crore, which increased to 13 crore in 2014, and 16 crore in 2019.
You won’t believe that between 2009 and 2019, the assets of sitting MLAs in Andhra Pradesh increased tenfold. In fact, research in India has shown that after winning an election, the chances of a family member of a legislator becoming a contractor in road construction increase by up to 63%.
So basically, as soon as someone becomes a legislator in our country, they give the road construction contract to their uncle or nephew. And that’s why most MPs or MLAs don’t love any ideology; they are just making fools of you on camera.
They love money or positions. Republican Party of India’s Ramdas Athawale spoke very well when he had power.
I was with you. And before the election, people were telling me to come to the Congress, but I said, “What should I do there?” I had seen the direction of the wind, it was blowing towards Narendra Modi. Most people who become MPs or MLAs are not interested in governance or policy-making because they are not given any power.
Most political parties in our country are not democratic. There are very few people in these parties who make all the major decisions and decide what the party’s policy will be and who will get the ticket. Due to the country’s anti-defection law, they cannot even speak against the political party. So they basically become puppets.
In 1967, there was an MLA in Haryana named Gaya Lal who changed parties three times in one day. After this, a line became very popular, “Ram Gaya Ram.” In the 1960s and 70s, parties used to change so quickly that governments would fall.
Then Parliament decided in 1985 that the Constitution had to be changed, and they inserted the Tenth Schedule into the Constitution or the Anti-Defection Law. This law basically said that an MP or MLA cannot leave their party for another party, and many guidelines were also made. Like one guideline said that if an MP or MLA votes against their party, they cannot be disqualified.
The Dilemma of MPs and MLAs: Toeing the Party Line
In Parliament, they can be disqualified, so every MP or MLA has to toe the party line; they can’t go against their party. They can’t even make major decisions; that’s why only those interested in making money enter politics. They know they can’t make policy; my election isn’t about any issue; it’s about my personal issue;
I want to earn money, invest, and use the facilities that come with being a legislator. Besides, people are not voting based on constituency issues but on who will be the Chief Minister in my state or the Prime Minister in the country. That’s why I don’t care about the candidates; what matters is who will be the Chief Minister or Prime Minister. In 2019,

I came here to fight, I will win, then I will be involved, then I can talk to you about many other things. Most people in our country who are contesting elections are doing so just to raise their status or earn more money. The problem starts when someone publicly says that all this is a lie, our government is very clean.
In 2014, Prime Minister Modi was contesting on the anti-corruption issue, but today, the Indian Rupee has consistently fallen against the Dollar. Why did this happen, and I have clearly demanded that this is not just for economic reasons. It is because of your corrupt politics that Delhi has seen.
The Prime Minister who rallies against Ashok Chauhan in public rallies, saying how can they do this against the soldiers of Kargil who sacrificed themselves? Will they also loot the widows of those who were martyred while defending Mother India during the Kargil war? They later accommodate them in their party.
The same Prime Minister who declares that they are demonetizing to remove unaccounted money from our country. They induct leaders into their party who have serious corruption cases against them, and all investigations against them are closed. The same Prime Minister who says that we are bringing electoral bonds so that black money can be eliminated from Indian politics. Electoral bonds were brought to end the dominance of black money in Indian politics. 
They also tell the Supreme Court that citizens have no right to know where political parties are getting their funding from. Modi created electoral bonds.
That’s why today you are struggling to find out who took the money and where. In February 2018, he gave a speech where one of his lines became very popular, ‘Brothers and sisters, my mantra is neither to take nor to let others eat.’
This line became so popular that in 2019, a movie was released featuring Narendra Modi, where the role was played by Vivek Oberoi. There too, this line was used, ‘I will neither eat nor let others eat.’ But how can we trust you when one day you gang up against leaders for corruption, and the next day those same leaders join your party?”
So, is sewage water going into the Ganges, or is Ganges water coming into the sewage? The problem is that in our politics, we want a messiah; we all want a personalized dictator who can do everything we want without telling us. But the problem is that in this country, there are more than 100 crore people with different preferences.
That’s why we should demand a leader who invests in institutions, who reduces their power and brings independence to the CBI, ED, and judiciary. Otherwise, the leader will keep changing, but the system will remain corrupt. Now, seeing this, you might have two reactions. One reaction is that the system is useless; everyone is corrupt,
what can I do? If this is your reaction, then the system will remain the same. The other reaction is to understand that as emotional as many people are about IPL teams if you are a little emotional about your politics and government, then the system can change. Voting is your decision, but at least you can inform others, and make them Be aware of what their government, their party, and their leaders are doing. Vote for the great service who provides for you and for a society whose services you vote for not for him or for his self-provided services.
